Lititz Christian School

Tim Kachel
Senior

"Tim, Tim, Tiiimmm..." The one-word song begins to amplify and slowly fills the auditorium as those lined up on stage test their mics before the show, and Tim Kachel tweaks each one until the sound is just right.

Tim Kachel has been an integral part of every LCS production - including Christmas programs, Creative Arts Festivals, plays, musicals, and even chapels on Thursdays - for the past five years. Though you may not see him, you know he's there because the lights and sound are working flawlessly - at least as far as you can tell. Tim isn't just a part of the technical aspect of the arts at LCS, however; he's also handy with a pencil and paper. He loves drawing buildings and people, specifically portraits of his ancestors. His inspiration is fueled by his avid interest in genealogy. His art work has been displayed at local fairs and, even more recently, during LCS's Creative Arts Festival on April 22nd, when he had the opportunity to set up his own exhibit as one of three senior independent artists. After an unexpected change in his class schedule at the beginning of the year, independent art quickly became his favorite class.

Tim  has attended LCS since his preschool days and now serves as treasurer for his senior class as well as the school's yearbook editor. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers at Camp Conquest over the summer. He attends Grace Church in Lititz, where he is a member of the youth group and helps out on the sound team for the children's ministry. After graduation, Tim plans to attend Millersville University.

Louis Petolicchio
Senior

Louis Petolicchio is best known among his peers at LCS for his off-the-wall sarcasm and political pro-clivity. He's proved himself to be an expert on every uncanny topic imaginable, and whatever view you might have, he's more than ready to oppose it, whether seriously or in jest. Not surprisingly, when asked who he most admires, Louis replied, "Winston Churchill. He had a keen political mind, and he was a realist who was not afraid to stand for what he believes in." His favorite class is AP English with Mr. Long where he is able to get involved in many in-depth discussions on both literature and other various topics.

Louis is a member of the National Honor Society at LCS, where he has attended school for the past six years. He has also performed in a number of LCS drama productions, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer as the illustrious Judge Thatcher and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as the gluttonous Augustus Gloop. This past fall he played Captain Keller, Helen Keller's father, in The Miracle Worker, and more recently he performed as a Who in this spring's Seussical the Musical. In his spare time, Louis enjoys target shooting, playing computer games, hiking, and drawing gothic architecture and Marvel-style heroes in his notebooks. He attends youth group at Evangelical Free Church of Lebanon in Jonestown and occasionally volunteers at the AFCA warehouse where he sorts surplus medical supplies which will later be shipped to children's hospitals in Africa.

After graduation, Louis plans to "conquer Andorra; it's a small principality between France and Spain." Actually, he says, he plans to attend Grove City College. Still, he likes to dream big - WHO would have thought?

Chelsea Fleeger
Senior

Chelsea Fleeger is well-known among her class-mates for her imaginative, bookish, and feministic flair. She has attended LCS since third grade, and she enjoys her classes at school, particularly independent art. She loves to use "large, chunky graphite sticks" to draw intriguing subjects such as the human eye. "They're like big crayons," she says gleefully.

Chelsea confides, "I prefer darker art - no white showing on the paper." This is clear when one views her intense nature spilling over onto the canvas on other mediums like acrylics. However, her artistist talents are not limited to drawing and painting; Chelsea also has a knack for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. This past year in art class, she has taken on the project of decorating an old steamer trunk using decoupage. Her artwork will be on display at LCS as a part of the independent art seniors' singular exhibits during the Creative Arts Festival on April 22nd.

Chelsea is also involved in other aspects of the arts, including high school dramas and musicals. She began her high school acting career during her junior year when she performed as Becky Thatcher in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and later as a pirate in the spring musical, The Pirates of Penzance. This past fall she flawlessly executed the challenging role of the deaf-blind Helen Keller in LCS's production of The Miracle Worker. Chelsea is also a member of the Sr. High Choir at LCS. She enjoys writing, as well, and has even penned her own alphabet.

At Grace Church in Lititz, Chelsea is involved in the children's programs. She is also a member of the National Honor Society at LCS and works at Luther Acres during the week. After graduation, Chelsea plans to attend either Dickinson College or Grove City College to study pre-law.

Jonathan Distler
Senior

Jonathan Distler loves being on stage, whether he's holding a guitar while singing as the lead vocalist with his band Eternal Mindset or a ladder while acting in a Lititz Christian School production. In this past fall's The Miracle Worker, Jon returned to the LCS drama department for yet another talented performance, this time as James, Helen Keller's "half brother." Last year, he starred as the outrageous Tom in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and as the duty-bound Frederick in The Pirates of Penzance. He also played the part of Mike TV in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory during his ninth grade year. In Lititz Christian's Spring Musical, Seussical the Musical, Jon will sing out strong as Horton the Elephant.

In his free time, Jon likes to write and play music, and he also enjoys "being lazy." With all of the activities that he is involved in, though, you might not believe him to be the lazy sort; Jon plays on the LCS Varsity Boys' soccer team in the fall and is also a part of the Ministry Team, Sr. High Choir, and LCS Worship Arts Ministry. At Grace Church in Lititz, where his father is the pastor, he serves as an usher and leads youth group worship. Not surprisingly, Jon most admires Steve Fee, a contemporary Christian musician, for his "passion and heart for leading worship."

"To me," Jon says, "worship is glorifying God with everything you have and do. It's giving God all the glory and praise He deserves."

Jon has attended LCS since seventh grade. He loves the fact that LCS is a small school and enjoys Bible class with Mr. Lewis. After graduation, he plans to attend Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, to study worship arts.

Lindsay Bering
Senior

Lindsay Bering may be one of the more petite seniors in her class, but she knows how to make herself heard. She is known far and wide at LCS for her love of piano, and she accompanies the Sr. and Jr. High Choirs during classes, rehearsals, and concerts. She even plays piano at her church, Living Waters Chapel in Lebanon, where she is also a member of the youth group.

At school, Lindsay is enthusiastically involved in musicals and dramas. Last spring, she played one of General Stanley's daughters in The Pirates of Penzance. This fall she played the role of Kate Keller, Helen's loving mother, in The Miracle Worker, and even a touch of the stomach flu couldn't keep her down during all three performances. Apart from the more theatrical side of high school, Lindsay is a member of the National Honor Society. She is also a part of the Student Senate where she keeps track of all of the goings-on at school by serving as the secretary for the senate and for her senior class. Her favorite subject, she says, is calculus with Mr. Wenger, and she loves the friends that she has at LCS and its encouraging environment.

During the week, Lindsay works at Dutch-Way in Myerstown and sometimes volunteers at Landis Homes in Lititz. In her free time, she likes to read and spend time with her friends. After graduation, Lindsay plans to attend college, though she is not yet sure where or what she wants to study.

Hillary Bossert
Senior

Hillary Bossert gets a thrill from the arts. Dancing, singing, acting, and playing the piano are her passions, and she displays her skills frequently and with finesse. The students of Lititz Christian, where Hillary has attended school for the past nine years, are familiar with her dancing and singing in the hallways and her unique penchant for pinching elbows in greeting. She loves being able to get to know and encourage people in her school.

Hillary assists with classes at the Lititz Academy of Dance, where she has also been a student for six years. At school, she is avidly involved in the ministry team, the National Honor Society, Thursday chapels, Sr. High Choir, band, and drama. Hillary is quite familiar with the LCS stage. She has acted in musicals and plays alike over the years, and you may have seen her as June Sanders in Smoke On the Mountain, Lady Macbeth in Here Come the Brides, Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance, and Mrs. Harper in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. In this year's Sr. High Fall Play, The Miracle Worker, she played the role of Helen Keller's devoted and formerly-blind teacher Annie Sullivan. Hillary plays the clarinet in the Sr. High band. She has also been studying piano for the past ten years, and she often puts her masterful piano skills to use during the LCS Christmas concerts and Creative Arts Festivals.

Hillary attends Grace Church in Lititz where she is a part of the youth group and worship team. After graduation Hillary plans to go to college, perhaps, she says, to study music or musical theater.

Kelsey Winters
Senior

The spotlights are on center stage as Kelsey Winters steps forward and raises her microphone to deliver another stunning solo to her audience.

Kelsey has a deep love of music. She is involved in the Sr. High Choir at Lititz Christian School and also played a key role in last year's Sr. High Musical, The Pirates of Penzance. In the 2009 Sr. High Fall Play, The Miracle Worker, Kelsey will be taking on the role of Martha. She isn't just a star on the stage, though; she is also a member of the Sr. High track team and the National Honor Society. After taking her PSATs, Kelsey earned the opportunity to apply for a National Merit Scholarship. Kelsey has attended school at LCS since kindergarten and appreciates the fact that the students there "really get to know each other." She believes that the school could be improved by growing more unified. Her favorite classes are art and Mr. Wenger's math class. After graduation, she plans on attending Cedarville University, though she doesn't know what she will be studying yet.

Kelsey attends Faith Bible Fellowship Church in Mountville, where she participates in youth group and the youth praise team and sings in front of the congregation. During the week, she works at Bruster's in East Petersburg. When asked how she spends her free time, Kelsey first replied, "What free time?" but then answered that she likes to spend time with her friends and youth group. She most admires her youth pastor, teachers, and family because they are examples of the type of person she would like to be.

Xander Bernhardt
Senior

Senior Xander Bernhardt is no stranger to the halls of LCS, where he has attended school for the past twelve years. He is well known by many of the students and faculty for his outstanding leadership and involvement in extracur-ricular activities. After graduation, Xander plans to study abroad, following where God leads him. He also has a desire to visit Japan. At the moment, though, he is busily immersing himself in a totally different culture in his favorite class: Spanish. In his spare time, Xander enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with his friends and family. In his home church, Grace Church of Lititz, he lends a hand as the leader of a Jr. High Bible study group.

Of course, Xander also tries to keep up on all of the latest soccer moves. His most memorable soccer moment, he says, is winning the tournament at Hanover his sophomore year. In addition to playing on the varsity boys' soccer team, Xander is also a part of the ministry team and Sr. High choir at LCS and serves as the Student Senate President. It's no surprise to anyone that he holds this position among his peers; his role model, his father, is none other than Senior Administrator of LCS Rick Bernhardt. When asked why his father inspires him, Xander replied that it is because of his godly leadership. Xander's vision is to see the student body grow closer to each other and to God this year.
