Caring Classmates Create Special Quilt

Dana Merklinger understands the holiday season better than most people her age. Simply stated it is about giving, she wanted to give to her classmate Lindsee Simpson and did so in the form of a quilt that she and her classmates created. Since time was an element we asked community members to help and the outpouring of their efforts was overwhelming. They were able to complete this in a few weeks. I am proud of my class and their hard work and cooperation; this was no small undertaking, said teacher Mrs. Hauser. If you would like to make a donation to The Breathe for Lindsee Fund please contact Mrs. Hauser or Mrs. Ozga in the guidance department at Garden Spot. Residents of Garden Spot Village and Bowmansville Mennonite Church offered their quilting expertise to help bring this project together. Shown are students from Mrs. Hauser’s Housing and Interiors class.

Brainstorming For Groundbreaking Book

A group of students in Mr. Joe Vulopas’ yearbook class received a real-world lesson in marketing recently as Julie Fitzgerald, a top director of marketing for Jostens, Inc., flew from Minnesota to teach members of the staff. The students are currently finishing the secondary publication “Pages of Changes: Through the Eyes of an Eagle.” The publication, which began in December of 2006, is a complete history of all extracurricular activities at Cocalico High School from 1931 to present. Mrs. Fitzgerald helped the “Pages of Changes” staff create a marketing plan for the book. According to Jostens, Cocalico’s groundbreaking book is the only publication of its kind produced by high schoolers in America. The expected release date is Spring 2009.
