Bitzer Mill Covered Bridge Repair Work Begins
(Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese)
The Bitzer Mill covered bridge just outside of Farmersville is currently undergoing major renovations and structural fixes after a truck drove through the bridge last year causing extensive damage. Crews were busy removing pieces of the bridge in an effort to bring the bridge back up to speed, and estimates are six to eight weeks at this point for project completion.
The bridge was built in 1846 at a cost of $1,115 and has been known by various names, including Eberly’s Cider Mill, Martin’s Mill, Big Conestoga and Fiand’s/Fiantz’s.
