Allyson Butz has earned the highest rank in Girl Scouts: a Gold Award, which requires an 80-hour project in addition to countless years in scouting. For her project, she put together care packages for children at AI duPont Children’s Hospital. Each package included homemade quilted pillowcases, a gift card to Target and a message of encouragement for children as well as siblings of children being treated at the hospital. Through her project, she met with younger troops as well as friends and taught them how to sew the pillowcases.  She created a Facebook group as well as a flier to share information about her project with others.  Ladies in her church, family and friends in the community all made pillowcases.  To date, she has collected over 75 pillowcases.  She has delivered 50 of the care packages so far.  She will take the rest down to duPont this summer when she volunteers through their high school volunteer program.

Allyson has been a scout since kindergarten and plans to maintain a lifetime membership. “I think it’s a nice way to be involved in your community,” she said. She is the daughter of Kristine and Timothy Butz of Reinholds.
