Civil War Day To Be Held At Reamstown Memorial Park

Witness Civil War skirmishes and hear stories about the war that almost divided the country during Civil War Day on Saturday, July 30 at Reamstown Memorial Park. The park, located behind Reamstown Community Center, 23 East Church Street in Reamstown, will open at 9:00 a.m. The opening ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m., with the event ending at 4:00 p.m.
Shown in the photo are members of Company C, 53rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. The 53rd will be performing firing demonstrations and Company drill throughout the day.
A parade drill demonstration at 11:00 a.m. and a battle reenactment, or skirmish, at 2:00 p.m. will be performed by the 79th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, the 1st Pennsylvania Reserves and the 1st Virginia Irish Brigade. The groups will also demonstrate camp life throughout the day.
Talks by members of the 1st Defenders Civil War Round Table in Reading will be held inside the Community Center. At 10:00 a.m., Dave Fox will speak about the Union Cavalry; at 12:30 p.m., Bob Shuman will present on the Burning of Chambersburg; and at 3:00 p.m., Craig Breneiser will talk about the Andersonville Prison.
Food will be available for purchase. Civil War Day is sponsored by the Reamstown Historical Society and Museum.
