The 14th annual Adamstown Community Days celebration will be held Friday, May 27, Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 at the community grove along Route 272 in Adamstown. The event is known for its free, family-friendly entertainment, good food, carnival rides and Sunday night’s spectacular fireworks display.Festivities will kick-off with an appearance by the area’s best-known Elvis impersonator, Jeff Krick, along with Jeff Krick, Jr., on Friday at 7:30 p.m. With his booming voice and physical appearance, Krick will bring Elvis back to life. Joe Dietrich, who has chaired the event since its inception, said, “I’m especially excited about bringing the Essential Elvis tribute Show to Adamstown as well as our other first rate entertainment acts!”
Other entertainment includes The Mahoney Brothers with Jukebox Heroes Live on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The 90-minute show features uncanny impersonations of musical legends spanning 60 years of music. The Beach Boys, Rick Nelson, Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly will magically seem to appear under the huge circus tent at the carnival site.
Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. will bring the perennial local favorite group Flamin’ Dick & the Hot Rods back on stage. Their show traditionally has fans dancing in front of the stage and through the aisles from the first note of the high-energy rock and roll show. There is no charge for any of the performances although donations to cover the entertainment cost will be accepted at all shows.  Concert-goers should bring their own chairs or blankets. Reserved up-front seating for all shows is again available for a cost by calling Joe Dietrich at 484-256-0851.
Besides the nightly musical entertainment, fair-goers will be entertained by a free magic show, karaoke and face painting, in addition to game stands and cash bingo. Good food is guaranteed, from carnival vendors and local non-profit organizations.  Everything from eat-as-you-go snacks to meals provided under the pavilion by local groups can be enjoyed. Mohn’s Hill Church will have something new Friday, with nachos supreme, homemade chili and mini-meatball sandwiches on the menu, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Saturday’s pavilion meal will be a spaghetti dinner and meatball sandwiches served by Immanuel E.C. Church from 2:00 p.m. The Adamstown Rod & Gun Club will offer their famous trout chowder and chicken barbecue on Sunday beginning at noon.
The younger set always enjoys carnival rides and they will be available on either an individual ride basis or by purchasing a wristband on Saturday or Sunday that allows unlimited rides between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Dietrich said that if all goes as planned, there will be a special addition to the rides: a Ferris wheel.
The highlight for people from miles around the area is the spectacular 10,000 rocket fireworks show by D&M Fireworks at the pool at 10:00 p.m. Dietrich suggests checking the ACD website for weather updates if the weather looks threatening. The rain date is 9:00 p.m. on Monday, May 30.
Thanks to donations from a number of local sponsors, there is no charge for admission, parking or entertainment. And the fireworks remain a perfect culmination of the weekend. “We want to extend a warm ‘thank you’ to all of our local businesses,” Dietrich said, “our fireworks sponsors, Unruh Insurance Agency, Boehringers Drive In, Sauder Fuels, Weaver Markets, Stoudts Brewing Company and Park Place Restaurant and our main sponsor, Blue Ridge Communications, for their continuing efforts to make our Community Days a reality.”
