First Responders Are In Need Of Your Help

With the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks in our country, we are reminded of many things, and one of those things is how important our emergency responders are to our everyday life. The Ephrata Community Ambulance Association (ECAA) is one of those dedicated groups of first responders, and they are actively searching for volunteers to join their team and make a difference in the local community.

ECAA utilizes willing volunteers to staff ambulances weekends and nights from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. as they are available. Volunteerism in general is declining in recent years. EMS takes a hard hit due in part to rising training costs, more time required for initial training and the 24 continuing education hours required every three years to recertify in Pennsylvania.

The ambulance association covers 23 square miles in Akron, Ephrata Boro, Clay, Ephrata Township and parts of West Earl. They are looking for first responders in the form of EMTs and EMRs. If you have ever considered becoming a first responder, please call the ambulance association at 717-733-2821 for details on how to make a difference for so many. You can also visit their website at for more information on volunteering your time and giving back to the community or email them at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with questions regarding becoming a volunteer or for more information regarding the ride-along observer program for those 18 years of age and older.
