Festive Christmas Planned In Downtown Ephrata

A huge shout out to the Martzall Family of Ephrata who have a long history and family ties to the Ephrata community and that is why the Martzall family is so excited to share their beautiful spruce tree with the town. The centerpiece of Christmas and the launch of the holiday season in Ephrata has been the long time tradition of lighting the tree. This year that tradition will continue on Friday, November 27 in downtown Ephrata in front of the Ephrata National Bank building with special thanks to Ryan and Karen Martzall and their two boys Cole and Alex.

Over 36 years ago Karen’s parents, Jeffrey and Cindy Rutt, built their home in Lincoln Heights and at that time planted a small blue spruce in the front yard. Karen grew up in Ephrata for the first 17 years of her life until they sold the house. Within the past six months, the family found out through friends, that the owners who purchased the home from her parents 17 years ago were planning on selling the house.

Having such fond memories of her childhood home, Karen had always shared with her husband Ryan how much she loved the house and property and when the opportunity presented itself to have the home back in the family, they jumped on it. After the move they couldn't believe how big the tree was and that it had outgrown its space. Being that both Karen and Ryan grew up in Ephrata, it was only natural they thought it would be really neat if they could donate this beautiful tree for the Christmas celebration in downtown Ephrata. The community, as well as the Martzall family, are very happy is has worked out this way!

Along with the festivities for the Arrival of Santa and Tree Lighting there will also be the Jingle Bell Trolley Tour on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12. Tickets will be on sale at the Santa Arrival on Friday, December 27 and at the Small Biz Lovin’ Local Party on Saturday, November 28. This event was sold out last year, so do not wait to purchase your tickets! If you are unable to attend either event, contact Sue Burkholder at 717-733-6123 to purchase your tickets.
