At a special School Board meeting on Monday, June 2, the Ephrata Area Board of School Directors approved the bid for the installation of synthetic turf at the War Memorial Field. The Board of Directors also approved the purchase of portable flooring to help maintain field longevity and the additional padding to increase safety. The portable flooring will be used when the bleachers are on the field for special events, such as graduation. The War Memorial Field will continue to host football and baseball games. It will also be available for soccer and for use by Ephrata High School students during physical education class. The discussion of replacing the sod field with synthetic turf started when an anonymous donor offered to contribute $1 million for the installation of synthetic turf. After the project was approved, Board President Tim Stayer expressed gratitude to the anonymous donor. “On behalf of the Board, we are gracious for your donation. Thank you.” Shown in the photo are several pieces of equipment working on sod removal at the War Memorial Field as the synthetic turf project moves forward.
