The Ephrata Language Arts Department is pleased to announce that Brittany Contres (right) and Meg (Margaret) Swenson (left) were named semi-finalists in the International Fountainhead writing contest sponsored by the Ayn Rand Society. Their essays were chosen from a field of over 2,500 essays submitted from all over the world. The Fountainhead is a required reading in the Advanced Placement Language and Composition course, where students study author’s styles of writing and analyze the effectiveness of an author’s argument. Their essays were judged on both style and content. Judges looked for writing that was clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays demonstrated an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of the novel. The girls will receive a cash award.
