The successful outcome to two recently held fundraisers by the Friends of the Adamstown Area Library is making a difference to library services. The profit of $6,000 from Basket Bingo and $11,000 from the Annual Spring Book Sale totaling $17,000 was presented to Library Director, Kathy Thren, by Friends President, Margaret Harting and Book Sale Chair, Carole Evans. The Friends are grateful to those volunteers who helped with the fundraisers and those who contributed by attending the events.
Additionally, in January the Friends gave their yearly contribution of $25,000, the profit from last year’s “Bucks for Books” Dinner and Auction, to the library.
Through their fundraising efforts the Friends enable the community to enjoy a variety of choices, at their library, such as books, movies, music, computer availability, educational materials and programs for all ages.
The Friends have also financed the ongoing popular STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program, that began in March, for students of various ages as well as six new programs for children on the library’s upcoming summer schedule.
In accepting the check, Adamstown Area Library Director, Kathy Thren said, “The library is truly grateful for the additional funds which will greatly reduce our budget deficit and, more importantly, provide monies to purchase much needed library materials and adult and children’s programming speakers.”
Work on the Friends next fundraiser is already in progress as they prepare for their 10th annual “Bucks for Books” dinner and Auction. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 14 at Foxchase Golf Club, Stevens. Friends brochures, with information on their fund-raisers, are available in the library at 3000 North Reading Road, Adamstown.
