George Donald Wolf, 92, of Akron, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ephrata Township to the late Arthur Z. and Leona (Brown) Wolf and was the husband of Phyllis Lorraine (Garman) Wolf. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on April 13.

George grew up on a farm in Ephrata Township, and spent summers helping neighboring farmers. He graduated from Ephrata High School in 1952, where he was a member of the rifle team. He furthered his education at Stevens Trade School, where he studied architectural drafting and graduated in 1955. In his early career, George worked as a carpenter. He quickly moved on to managing a construction company, which turned into a career in real estate and property management. While working for Penn Realty in Manheim, he opened an Akron office which eventually became Geo. Wolf & Associates, Inc. where he was owner and broker of record. He also founded a property management company under the name of Wolf & Kline Property Management, which was sold in 2003. He and his wife owned and operated the Akron Motel from 1970 to 1976. They also ran a family insurance business from 1975 to 1990. He reluctantly retired at the ripe old age of 87.

As a lifelong supporter of the Akron community which he loved, George served as Mayor of Akron from 1990 to 1993. He also served on Akron Borough Council for 20 years and was honored by the Borough of Akron for his service. George was a member of Akron Community Church. He was a past member of the Akron Lions Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and exemplified their values. He also served as president of the Wolf’s Cemetery. His community service extended into other areas, including serving on the Ephrata Community Hospital Foundation Board and serving as a member of the Fulton Bank Board.

George was a man of many interests and hobbies. Earlier in life, he had his pilot’s license and flew for the parachute jumpers out of Maytown airport. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. He was especially proud of his duck carvings. He loved all sports and enjoyed golfing and skiing. He had an especially deep love for baseball, fueled by his brother Orie’s and his grandson Nate’s careers in the minor leagues. He was Ephrata High School baseball’s oldest fan, where he watched his grandsons win many titles. He enjoyed traveling, and his greatest joy in life was his family.
