Kerry L. Shuey, 68, of Denver, passed away on May 1, 2026 at York Hospital following a nearly seven-week illness.
Kerry was born in Ephrata to the late Geraldine L. (Enck) Shuey and John H. Shuey, of Palmyra, and was the loving husband of Patti J. Shuey for nearly 23 years. He had three children, two step children whom he loved as his own, and six granddaughters, to whom he was better known as “Shupa.”
Kerry was a 1975 Ephrata High School grad and later received an Associates Degree in Executive Data Management in 1977. He worked in IT and Computer Programming for the entirety of his career and had retired Spring of 2025. He was most recently employed as IT Director at Feeser’s Food Distributors of Harrisburg for 22 years.
During his high school years, Kerry was a member of the Ephrata Track Team. It was also during this time that his love for fly-tying and fly-fishing developed. Kerry had many hobbies and interests, but aside from spending time with his family, fly fishing was at the top of the list. He and his wife Patti loved to travel and were married at Cinnamon Bay St. John, USVI. Their travel destinations often included beautiful places to fly fish, most recently British Columbia. Kerry also spent lots of time with family at his cabin in Mifflin County.
Kerry was easy to get along with, had a great sense of humor and was always “doing something.” He absolutely loved music, but was an awful dancer according to family. He also loved cornhole and competed in many tournaments in recent years. He loved his two Bernedoodles, Sage and Harper. He was a Villanova Basketball fan and enjoyed watching March Madness. Kerry was always encouraging people to “just get along.”
Kerry was a fighter and had dealt with years of medical challenges with a compromised immune system following a battle with cancer in 1999. Our family is grateful to have received over 25 years more time with him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and step children: Steven J. Shuey of Akron, husband of Rebecca (Zuck) Shuey; Kerilee Shuey, of Reinholds; Kristen (Shuey) Sauder of Ephrata, wife of Jason M. Sauder; Spencer Nawa of Sinking Spring, husband to Alaina Nawa; and Jojo Quinn of Denver, partner to Ava Iloni. In addition, he is survived by his father, John H. Shuey of Palmyra, and three sisters: Kathy A., wife of Dr. Bryan Neff of Coudersport; Krista L., wife of Michael Wee of Manheim; and Kim N., wife of David Miller of Palmyra. “Shupa” will also be greatly missed by the granddaughters: Kara, Kaycee, Kristina, Gracie, Emmie and Ridley.
Our family would like to thank the staff of York WellSpan, especially ICU nurses Jack and Quinn, for their compassionate care over these past several difficult weeks.
A visitation will be held at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St, Denver, PA 17517 on Saturday, May 9th at 1pm-2:30pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:30pm. Kerry would say that dressing up for his service is “very unnecessary,” so attendees are encouraged to dress casual. In lieu of flowers, his wife requests donations to Trout Unlimited at www.tu.org, an organization that cares and recovers America’s Trout Waters, a cause that was important to Kerry.
Obituary personally written by Kristen (Shuey) Sauder, in honor of her Father.
