Verna Youndt, of Lancaster, born on August 11,1928, passed away on April 7, 2026, at Garden Spot Village. Her family would like to acknowledge this exemplary facility for the compassionate and exceptional care that she received there. They especially extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff in the Fallcrest unit who cared for Mom/Grandma.

Born in Denver, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George and Earla (Pierce) Hainley. Her husband, the late Pherl Youndt, died in 2005. A son, Terry Youndt, and a brother, Charles Hainley, also predeceased her.

As Mom and Grandma, Verna loved her family. With loving memories and gratitude, they carry on the values she helped instill in them. Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie Jean Weinhold (Tom, deceased). Grandsons and spouses are Keith and Kim, Kristopher and Lauren, and David and Emily. McKayla, Krista, and Hope are great granddaughters. Also surviving is a son, Timothy Lee Youndt (Maria) with grandson John and his spouse, Jevica.

Verna was a graduate of Denver High School and salutatorian of her class. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Leola, where she had served as proofreader and meal-maker for homebound members. She also was a volunteer for the Literary Council of Lancaster and for Compeer, Lancaster. Verna worked for a short time as a visiting nurse. It gave her great pleasure to help others.

One of her favorite hobbies was working in her flower garden. She also enjoyed reading, especially Max Lucado’s books. Verna appreciated music and in earlier days, enjoyed ballroom dancing. She loved animals, especially dogs, and one was by her side most of her adult life.

Verna’s grandson, the Reverend David Weinhold, will officiate her graveside service with family and friends.
