Walter P. “Paul” Sweigart, 82, of Denver, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law by his side. He had been struggling with a 4-year illness.

He was born in Clay Township, son of the late Walter H. and Vera (Walters) Sweigart and was the loving husband of Edith L. (Miller) Sweigart, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Paul was a member of St. John’s UCC in Denver and the Ephrata Amvets. In addition to spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he enjoyed playing cards and other games. He enjoyed deer hunting, working in the yard, and gardening. He bought a dump truck and enjoyed hauling stone. Walter will be dearly missed by his family.

A graduate of Ephrata High School, he later enlisted in the Army for 3 years.

Paul was a construction worker and also worked in the rivet shop at Alcoa, from where he took an early retirement.

In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by daughter, Deb, son-in-law, Randy, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a sister and 3 brothers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Timothy Sheaffer, sister, Norma, and brother, Rodney.

A viewing will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM, with Pastor Bradley Haws officiating. Interment will take place in the Muddy Creek Cemetery.
