Glenn Lee Buffenmyer, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at St. Anne’s Retirement Community.

Born on January 6, 1941, in Ephrata, to the late Henry and Ruth (Burkholder) Buffenmyer, he was the husband of Almanara (Steffy) Buffenmyer. They shared 62 years of marriage.

Glenn was a member of Bergstrasse Lutheran Church for 56 years, serving as an usher, a greeter, on council, and one of Tuesday Boys. Glenn served in the U.S. Army in Vietnnam, during which time he earned his G.E.D. During his working years, he worked for Walter W. Moyer, Gerber Industries, and Hope Hosiery as a knitting machine mechanic, before his retirement in 2005. He was a lifetime member of the Cocalico post #3376 VFW and The Friendly Circle. Glenn played pinochle with the Curly Carrot Card Club for 45 years and loved playing Hasenpfeffer and Scat with his family. Glenn’s dog, Buddy Holly, who laid by his side will surely miss his Poppy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Buffenmyer (Charlene Russell) of Columbia, and Kerry Buffenmyer (Lisa Boomhower) of Watsonville, CA; one grandson, Daniel Rennix; three granddaughters, Makena, Moya, Wilhelmina Buffenmyer; a bonus grandson, Andrew Barrow of Mountville; two sisters, Barbara Haws (Parke), Jeanne Heft (Jere), both of Ephrata, and a brother-in-law, Norman Hainley of New Holland.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Fred Buffenmyer; two sisters, Sara Hainley, Mary Lou Jones and a brother-in-law, Norman Jones.

The family would like to give special thanks to Maria, Mickie, Suzette, Carrie, and all who took very good care of Glenn while at St. Anne’s second floor skilled care.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at the Bergstrasse Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9 Hahnstown Rd., Ephrata, followed by his memorial service, at 11AM, with Rev. Jim Goodyear officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Bergstrasse Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
