Irene G. Hoover, 88, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Ephrata Manor.
She was born in Reinholds to the late Martin G. and Mabel M. (Gress) Showalter and was the wife of the late J. Harry Hoover who passed away in April of this year.
A member of Indiantown Mennonite Church, Ephrata, she enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, traveling, and listening to gospel music. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Irene worked as a kitchen manager for Weaver’s Banquet Facility.
Irene is survived by 5 children: Mary, wife of Ernie Hurst of Myerstown; Martin Hoover, husband of Lois (Good) of Robesonia; Glenda, wife of Randy Hollinger of Manheim; Susan Nissley of Elizabethtown; and John Hoover, husband of Diana (Martin) of Wellsboro; 19 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son-in-law, James Nissley, 2 great-grandchildren, Myka and Sage Ressler, and a brother, Luke Showalter.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Indiantown Mennonite Church, 255 Indiantown Road, Ephrata. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Nelson Zeiset officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
