J. Edwin Harting, 87, formerly of Reinholds, passed away on Sunday, January 7th, 2024, at the Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy. Born in Blainsport, Ed was the son of the late James G. and Mary (Gelsinger) Harting and the loving husband of Faye L. (Miller) Harting for 66 years.

James graduated from Denver High School, class of 1954. He started working with his father as a mechanic for the family business, Harting’s Garage. Ed then started working as a substitute Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service which became his full-time job for over 35 years. Ed volunteered with the fire police and ambulance for the Reinholds Fire Company for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, particularly a game of Hand and Foot. He was an avid bowler and bowled at the former Colonial Hills and Dutch Lanes, framing his high score card displaying ‘300’. James spent a lot of time outdoors; he loved his vegetable gardens, going on walks, and camping in Florida and the Pennsylvania State Parks. James treasured the relationships he developed with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love and encouragement will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by three children, Bonnie L. Showalter (Jim Kidwell) of Denver, Cathy A. Weinhold of Reinholds, and Rick L. Harting (Sharon) of Lititz; two granddaughters, Abey Riner (Zachary) and Emily Harting; two great granddaughters, Kenzie and Maren; and a great grandson, Quinton. James was predeceased by son-in-law, Kent Weinhold.
