James L. Shober, Jr., 89, of Stevens, passed away at home on Friday, November 17, 2023, under Hospice care after a 4-1/2 year illness. Born May 3, 1934, the ninth of ten children of James Sr. and Elsie (Musser) Shober. He was the husband of H. Joyce (Smith) Shober with whom he celebrated their 70th anniversary this past August 23rd.
Jim Graduated from East Cocalico High School, class of 1952. He was a member of the Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church in Reamstown for over 70 years where he sang in the choir, was an usher and greeter, and Sunday School Superintendent for a few years. Jim worked many different jobs but he was most proud of being the first paid ambulance driver for the Ephrata Ambulance Association. He retired from Red Rose Transport Authority. A lifelong bowler, Jim had a perfect game of 300 when he was 79 years old. He also enjoyed playing ping pong and was the Lancaster County Ping Pong Champion when he was in high school. Winning was always his ultimate goal. Jim enjoyed going to auctions every Friday at the
Green Dragon and helping his family with repairs and anything else they needed.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his three children, Jill (Bob) Hilt, David (Bette) Shober, and Philip (Gerri) Shober; six grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers.

Jim’s final resting place is Wolf’s Cemetery, Ephrata.
